There seems to be a new substack discourse on gift guides. Do we hate them? Do we love them?
I’ve decided I’m going to do them anyway because I LOVE gift guides, and this is my substack!! If you have any gift guides you want me to make, please let me know. Short cut to the gift guide here. Also, I like to think my gift guides are unique, and not the typical ones. I don’t like to post things over $300 (Ok, there’s one on here that’s more, but it’s worth it), and I have bought a lot of these for actual people in my life.
This gift guide is for the homemakers, trad wives, Martha Stewarts, home entertainers, homesteaders, etc, etc. A guide for a person that utilizes the space called HOME for greater purposes.
Seeds from Plant Good Seed - I got my very first seeds from here, and they are organic and grown in Ojai, California. Perfect, trustworthy seeds with some interesting vegetable varieties.
Ume Studio Erode Soap Set - This brand has really fabulous and gorgeous soaps, shaped sculpturally and with perfect places for you to stick your grubby little hands without ruining their beauty. Perfect for your powder room!
You can never go wrong with some vintage coffee table books. Find one for the entertainer or baker in your life, and people always adore these. Especially when they’re super niche, they tend to be kinda funny! Another fun one here.
A gorgeous whistling jug - For the flower arranger in your life. Finally one that doesn’t bring you into financial ruin!
A Complete Floral Design Course - with Gabriela Salazar, a very talented floral designer from Mexico. She teaches you everything from centerpieces to table styling to bouquets!
A gorgeous bird house for the yard - I think this is a genius gift for a gardener. It adds such character and height to a garden. I got my mom this one last year, and she LOVED it!
French Pastry Jars - These are so cute and you can organize your food in jars that aren’t from the Container Store!
Antique Door Knockers - My in-laws were building a house last Christmas, so we got them a door knocker for their brand new front door. We got a seashell one, because it was a beach house, but you can find woodpeckers, tennis rackets, etc. You can search “antique brass door knocker” on eBay and perhaps add your animal/object of choice? I’m obsessed with the little shovel one for a garden shed! Here’s a fabulous but super expensive lion that you can never go wrong with.
Anything from November 19 in the LES - I found so much cute stuff at this store but sharing my favorites here. The dachshund salt shakers, oversized salad servers, and the whale knife are my top 3.
A Smithey Cast Iron Skillet- If someone out there doesn’t have a cast iron, please get them this. I cook everything on this skillet and it’s changed the game. I was gifted a few from this brand for my wedding, including the wok and the dutch oven. They’re made in South Carolina, and they have such a nice natural color to them.
A gorgeous leather notebook for recipe-writing - I am a sucker for a pretty notebook.
A brass siren bottle opener - Don’t need to say anything about this one!
A cocktail pick set - I love mini things and I also love cocktail picks. This set is the cheapest version I could find of this fun set, where the bottles pop out of the bar to be cocktail picks! Here’s a fancier version of some cocktail picks for people that don’t like anything too kitschy.
A pretty bauhaus tea kettle - for the funky girl!
THAT’S IT! XOXOX
Oh I love these picks!
I need that bottle opener, even though I already have a perfectly good one and never use it.
